Carl- The Inspiration
For anyone lucky enough to have gotten to meet the inspiration behind this book, you would have known one of the most lovable dogs that ever existed. Carl had the sweetest temperament and knew no stranger. He was our son’s protecter and best buddy since the moment we brought Hugo home from the hospital. Carl’s time with us was not long enough (it never is!), so we created and dedicate this book as a tribute to him, so he can continue to bring happiness to all those he meets.
Fiona Miller- The Illustrator
I am an illustrator with a background in architecture and a love of magical stories: Carl’s adventure is a happy mix of both!
Two years ago my husband, kids and I adopted our own adventurous puppy. Cadbury (a Shiba Inu) came all the way from Korea and has been a perfect roadtrip partner and drawing-desk companion.

I remember the moment my husband and I first had the idea for this book. Carl was still a puppy, but we already knew that he was going to be special kind of dog. Carl was born a little bigger than the rest (called “Chubby” from his first home), so he had that adorable polar bear look from a young age. It has been such an honor to write this book and work with Fiona to create something that will keep Carl’s memory with us forever.
